Elementor Pro Review

A hands-on Elementor Pro review based on 3 years of real-world usage across 50+ WordPress installations, covering features, performance, pricing, and practical recommendations.

View Product

Elementor Pro is the premium upgrade to the widely-used Elementor page builder for WordPress. With over 16 million active installations, it's one of the most popular tools for building custom WordPress websites without writing code.

We've been using Elementor Pro across more than 50 WordPress sites over the past 3 years — from single-page landing pages to full WooCommerce stores. This review is based on that hands-on experience, not a surface-level feature list.

What Is Elementor Pro?

Elementor Pro is a premium WordPress page builder plugin that lets you design every part of your website visually. While the free version handles basic page layouts, Pro adds the Theme Builder, Popup Builder, WooCommerce Builder, and 100+ additional widgets that most professional sites need.

Current version at the time of this review: Elementor Pro 3.28. Tested with WordPress 6.7 and PHP 8.2.

Key Features We Actually Use

Elementor Pro includes dozens of features, but here are the ones that provide real value in day-to-day work:

Theme Builder

The Theme Builder is the primary reason to upgrade from free to Pro. It lets you design your site's header, footer, single post templates, archive pages, and 404 pages using the visual editor. Without it, you're limited to your theme's built-in design options.

In practice, we use the Theme Builder on every site we build with Elementor. Creating a custom header with a mega menu, sticky behavior, and responsive breakpoints takes about 30 minutes — compared to hours of custom CSS with a traditional theme.

Popup Builder

The Popup Builder creates popups with triggers (exit intent, scroll depth, time delay, click), conditions (show on specific pages, to specific users), and display rules (frequency capping, device targeting). It eliminates the need for a separate popup plugin like OptinMonster or Popup Maker.

We've used it for newsletter signups, promotional banners, age verification gates, and cookie consent notices. The targeting options are flexible enough for most use cases.

WooCommerce Builder

For e-commerce sites, the WooCommerce Builder lets you design custom product pages, shop archive layouts, cart pages, and checkout flows. This is particularly valuable because WooCommerce's default templates are functional but visually limited.

A custom product page with comparison tables, upsell sections, and trust badges — built in Elementor — consistently outperforms default WooCommerce layouts in our experience.

Form Widget

The Form Widget handles contact forms, multi-step forms, and registration forms with conditional logic, email notifications, and integrations with Mailchimp, HubSpot, and other services. For simple to moderate form needs, it can replace dedicated form plugins like Gravity Forms or WPForms.

100+ Pro Widgets

Beyond the core builders, Pro adds widgets like Slides, Pricing Table, Countdown Timer, Animated Headline, Media Carousel, Testimonial Carousel, Posts Widget, Portfolio, and more. The Posts Widget alone — which displays blog posts in customizable grid layouts — is something we use on nearly every site.

Performance Testing

Page builder performance is a legitimate concern. We tested Elementor Pro's impact on three site types:

MetricWithout ElementorWith Elementor ProDifference
Page Weight (homepage)~850 KB~1,100-1,300 KB+250-450 KB
DOM Elements~400~800-1,200+400-800
LCP (desktop)1.2s1.8-2.4s+0.6-1.2s
LCP (mobile)2.1s3.2-4.5s+1.1-2.4s
TBT120ms250-450ms+130-330ms

Elementor Pro adds weight to your pages — there's no way around it. The key is using the built-in performance features to minimize the impact:

  • Improved Asset Loading — Only loads CSS/JS for widgets actually used on the page
  • Flexbox Containers — Replaces the older section/column structure with cleaner, lighter markup
  • Lazy Load Background Images — Defers off-screen background images
  • Remove Unused CSS Inline Loading — Reduces render-blocking CSS

With these optimizations enabled, the performance gap narrows significantly. On a well-optimized site, Elementor Pro adds roughly 200-400 KB and 0.3-0.8s to LCP — acceptable for most use cases.

Pros and Cons

What We Like

  • Theme Builder saves hours — Custom headers, footers, and templates without touching code
  • All-in-one solution — Replaces popup, form, and slider plugins
  • WooCommerce integration — Custom product and shop pages that actually convert
  • Active development — Monthly updates with new features and improvements
  • Large ecosystem — Hundreds of third-party addons, template kits, and tutorials
  • Responsive controls — Per-device visibility and styling options

What Could Be Improved

  • Page weight overhead — Adds 200-450 KB even with optimizations enabled
  • DOM complexity — Generates more HTML elements than hand-coded pages
  • Learning curve for Theme Builder — Display conditions and template hierarchy take time to master
  • Mobile editing — Responsive adjustments can be tedious for complex layouts
  • Plugin conflicts — Occasionally conflicts with caching plugins or other page builders

Elementor Pro Pricing Options

Elementor offers four official plans:

PlanPriceSitesSupport
Essential$59/year1Standard
Advanced$99/year3Standard
Expert$199/year25Standard
Agency$399/year1,000VIP

Alternatively, you can get Elementor Pro through PluginTheme.net with a GPL license for $8.99 — a one-time payment with no annual renewal. This includes the full Agency Pack with all features unlocked. For a detailed pricing breakdown, see our Elementor Pro Pricing Guide.

Who Should Use Elementor Pro?

Based on our experience, Elementor Pro is a practical choice for:

  • Freelancers and agencies building client sites who need a visual theme builder
  • WooCommerce store owners who want custom product page layouts
  • Business owners who want to update their website without a developer
  • Bloggers and content creators who need custom post templates and popups

Who Might Want Alternatives

  • Performance-focused developers — If sub-1s LCP is critical, consider Gutenberg with a lightweight theme like GeneratePress
  • Simple blog sites — If you only need a blog, the free version of Elementor or the Block Editor may be sufficient
  • Developers who prefer code — Custom theme development offers more control and lighter output

Our Verdict: 4.5/5

Elementor Pro remains the most feature-complete visual page builder for WordPress in 2026. The Theme Builder, Popup Builder, and WooCommerce Builder together replace 3-4 separate plugins, which simplifies your tech stack and reduces potential conflicts.

The performance overhead is the main trade-off. If you follow the optimization recommendations (Flexbox containers, improved asset loading), the impact is manageable for most sites. For performance-critical projects, test thoroughly before committing.

At $8.99 through PluginTheme's GPL license, it's a low-risk investment to try. The official plans starting at $59/year are also reasonable for a tool you'll use across every page of your site.

Our Experience

Over 3 years of working with Elementor Pro, we've built everything from portfolio sites and landing pages to multi-language WooCommerce stores. The tool is reliable for production use, and the monthly update cadence means bugs are typically resolved within 1-2 releases. Our team's workflow includes Elementor Pro on roughly 80% of WordPress projects where visual design flexibility is a requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Elementor Pro worth the upgrade from free?
Yes, if you need the Theme Builder, Popup Builder, or WooCommerce Builder. These three features alone justify the upgrade for most professional WordPress sites.
Does Elementor Pro slow down websites?
Elementor Pro adds 200-450 KB to page weight. With built-in optimizations (Flexbox containers, improved asset loading) enabled, the impact is manageable. Expect LCP to increase by 0.3-0.8s on optimized sites.
Can I use Elementor Pro with any WordPress theme?
Elementor Pro works with most themes, but pairs best with lightweight starter themes like Hello Elementor, Astra, or GeneratePress that do not add conflicting design elements.
How does Elementor Pro compare to Divi Builder?
Elementor Pro has a built-in Popup Builder that Divi lacks, while Divi offers a lifetime license option. Both include Theme Builder and WooCommerce support.
Is the GPL version of Elementor Pro the same as official?
Yes. GPL-licensed Elementor Pro contains the same unmodified files as the official version. The difference is the distribution channel and pricing, not the product itself.
What is Elementor Pro latest version?
At the time of this review, Elementor Pro is at version 3.28. It receives monthly updates with new features, bug fixes, and security patches.
Does Elementor Pro include WooCommerce support?
Yes. All Elementor Pro plans include the WooCommerce Builder for designing custom product pages, shop layouts, cart, checkout, and my account pages.
